A street in Huelva for Jesús Hermida

Fulfilling the agreement adopted in 2016 by the City Council of Huelva, at the request of the Press Association and the Professional College of Journalists in Huelva, a street in this capital was named after Jesús Hermida in August 2017.

In February of the previous year, during the medal ceremony in Huelva held at the Congress Palace of Casa Colón, Mayor Gabriel Cruz presented the title of concession for the street to Begoña Fernández, the widow, and Jaime, one of Jesús Hermida's sons. The street is located in the La Merced neighborhood, where Jesús Hermida lived during his last years before moving to Madrid to begin his professional career, dreaming of becoming a journalist.

 The signs with his name are placed on both sides of the street, the former final stretch of Aragón Street, leading towards the University, the Cathedral, and Plaza de la Merced, between Paseo de Buenos Aires and the so-called Cuesta del Carnicero, very close to Jacobo del Barco Street, where the journalist lived during part of his childhood and youth.

This is the first street in Spain dedicated to this master of communication, a recognition initiated by the City Council and the Press Association of Huelva.

With this dedication, the city aims to acknowledge the significant contribution made by Jesús Hermida, who passed away suddenly on May 4, 2015, to communication, especially television, where he created a legacy and mentored some of the best figures in Spanish media. In his memory, the decision is also made to name the Communication Center in Huelva after him, making it the first space of its kind in Spain to closely understand the reality and evolution of communication and the work of this journalist. The center is designed to be an active installation with a permanent exhibition space dedicated to Jesús Hermida, complemented by temporary exhibitions and educational activities to explore the evolution of communication and understand the various systems and procedures used to facilitate it.
