The City Council presents the plan to revitalize the Jesús Hermida Communication Center
The Mayor of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, accompanied by the Councillor for Tourism, Commerce, Health and Consumption, Pastora Giménez, and the coordinator of the Jesús Hermida Communication Centre, Manuel Soto, have presented the new plan to revitalise the Jesús Hermida Communication Centre. This is, the Mayor explained, “a historic commitment by the Council to turn this space into a reference centre in the city, with its own cultural programme to make it truly attractive for both the people of Huelva and for tourists and visitors who come to Huelva, offering them one more attraction to come to our land”.
According to the mayor, this is “an attractive programme consisting of various exhibitions, round tables and conferences to discuss journalism and communication, and which will bring important figures in journalism to our city, such as Pedro Piqueras, who will be at the Centre next Tuesday to give a talk, or Irma Soriano, a communicator and actress known in the world of television thanks to Hermida's work”.
Furthermore, the mayor has also announced that, for visits to the centre, 30 audio guides are already available, “which have a detailed explanation of the entire exhibition space, also adapted to sign language”. In addition, the centre will also have its own website in the coming days, centrojesushermida.huelva.es, as well as profiles on social networks, which will show news about the Centre, in addition to the calendar of activities, and a space where dates can be reserved for guided group visits.
The mayor has also announced an extension of the Centre's opening hours, "fundamental to really revitalise this space". To this end, in addition to the usual opening hours from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00, it can now be visited on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, from 17:00 to 20:00. Regarding the programme, the mayor has assured that it has been carried out in collaboration with the Press Association, "they have been an essential part in the preparation of this whole programme, and that is why today I want to thank them too, because for this Centre to truly be a reference we have to work together and the Press Association undoubtedly puts a special care into revitalising this space".
In this sense, the president of the Press Association, Aurora Smet, has focused on the importance of having a space dedicated to journalism, “what journalism has been, what it means, which is nothing other than being able to know the reality of things, so that we can know history.” Smet has also pointed out the opportunity that this centre offers for young people to learn about the history of journalism “and how journalists of that time worked, with the scarce technological means they had.”
Manuel Soto, coordinator of the Jesús Hermida Communication Centre, has been in charge of outlining the programme, in which, between the months of November and December, “exhibitions dedicated to the world of comics, photography, female journalists from Huelva and the city itself will be held with the cycle of photojournalist exhibitions that will begin in December.”
According to the Coordinator of the Centre, “there will also be round tables to discuss the history of local television in Huelva or to learn more about such an important journalist in history as Manuel Chaves Nogales”. In addition, “children's workshops, guided tours with schools and adult centres in the city, as well as training workshops for journalists or communication professionals will be launched”, concluded Soto.
