The third edition of the Literary Cycle "Cuatro Letras" is celebrated

Category: Actividades

On Wednesday, October 25, the sessions of the third edition of the Literary Cycle "Cuatro Letras" begin at the Auditorium of the Jesús Hermida Communication Center in Huelva. The cycle, which lasts for two days, focuses on the theme "Huelva en Vanguardia 1923-1927" and is part of the programming of the XVI Ibero-American Cultural Autumn, coordinated by José Juan Díaz Trillo with the collaboration of Professor Consuelo Domínguez.

The cycle includes conferences and roundtable discussions that, based on the figures of Adriano del Valle, Rogelio Buendía, and María Luisa Muñoz de Vargas, aim to remember, a century later, the arrival of Adriano del Valle to Huelva. Alongside this intellectual couple, he fostered the development of interesting literary and artistic projects linked to the Avant-garde during these years.

This relationship and their contacts with cultural figures like Jorge Luis Borges and Fernando Pessoa gave cultural impetus to Huelva in a period when the Grand Theater was inaugurated, Ibero-American cooperation strengthened, a major flamenco festival celebrated, definitively consecrating the fandango, and the magazine was born. The editorial board, consisting of Rogelio Buendía, Fernando Villalón, and Adriano del Valle, included many authors from the Generation of '27 in the published issues.

The sessions of the Third Literary Cycle "Cuatro Letras" begin with a discussion between Rosa García Gutiérrez (director of the JRJ Chair) and Esther Colchero (author of a thesis on Muñoz de Vargas) on "María Luisa Muñoz de Vargas (cosmopolitanism, relations with Zenobia/JRJ, and R. Buendía)," moderated by journalist Mari Paz Domínguez. Later, Francisca Alfonso (creation and editing), Estrella Villalba (Saltés bookstore), and Jennifer Rodríguez-López (editor at Ediciones Pábilo), with the coordination of Xiomara Alvgar, discuss the current perspective on the editing of female authors.

On Thursday, the 26th, the sessions focus on debating "Adriano del Valle (in the Huelva-Lisbon axis)" with the participation of Ignacio Izquierdo del Valle (author's grandson and co-editor of the anthology La rosa y el velocípedo) and Antonio Sáez (professor at the University of Évora, editor of the correspondence between Pessoa and Adriano del Valle), moderated by researcher and professor Consuelo Domínguez. The day continues by discussing "Centauro magazine in singular and plural: new horizons of our literature," coordinated by Alejandro V. Bellido, Irene F. Romero, and José Cuevas Olmedo, concluding with a poetic recital.
