Exhibition "Self Love" by Ana Santos
On November 8, the "Amor Propio" exhibition featuring works by Ana Santos is inaugurated in the Multipurpose Room of the Jesús Hermida Communication Center (CCJH). The exhibition will be open for visits until November 24.
The display showcases 21 analog collage works that blend writing, painting, and photography with cutouts from newspapers, magazines, pages from old books, felt, and other materials. The thematic focus covers issues such as rising prices, gender identity, love, the pressure exerted on women by the media and major cosmetics and beauty companies, motherhood, cinema, philosophy, mental health, breakups, self-esteem, and self-love. The artwork includes titles that play with words to enhance the understanding of the intended message.
Additionally, there is an automated ticket dispenser for taking turns, with a written phrase on each number, located at the entrance of the room.
Ana Santos González was born in Huelva on December 12, 1978, and from a young age, she has continuously experimented with various expressive forms of creation, including photography, painting, and writing.
For a few years now, Ana Santos has dedicated herself to creating analog collages following a thematic line, with a touch of pop art, retro aesthetics, cinematic nods, philosophical reflections, and social criticism. Her works are at times irreverent, furious at outdated customs, and bold yet with good intentions. Each collage tells a story, sometimes related to the author's life or the world around her.
Ana Santos has exhibited her works in spaces such as Fair Saturday in Huelva, the IV Transborder Fair of Contemporary Art in Tavira, and at Casa Grande in Ayamonte. She has been awarded the Poetry Prize for the Best Local Work at the II Contest of Young Creation of the City Council of Huelva and writes a weekly column in the newspaper Huelva Información.
